Interviewer: Timothy Snarr
Date of Interview: 8/14/2007
XP: What attracted you to the adult industry?
JJ: It’s always something I wanted to do. I guess growing up it just was really interesting and I like being naked all the time so it just seemed natural.
XP: I know you used to be called Jana Foxy. How did you come up with your stage name Jana Jordan and why did you change it?
JJ: Well, my real name is Jana. It was never supposed to be Foxy, it was supposed to be Fox after an ex-boyfriend of mine who said I’d be really good in the adult industry. This real jerk, asshole guy I was with named it Foxy. So it was never supposed to be Jana Foxy but it kind of stuck. When I met with Michael we decided to change it and Jordan just sounded cute with Jana.
XP: You just mentioned Michael Ninn. From what I’ve read, he’s pretty evasive and keeps out of the public eye. How do you like working for Michael and what’s he like in person?
JJ: He’s really cool, he’s really laid back, and he’s pretty funny. He calls everyone ‘cool cats’ which I think is cute. He really just laid back. He’s not mean or he never yells or anything and he laughs a lot.
XP: And he still keeps his aura of mystique intact.
JJ: Yeah I think that’s cool. I read interviews and he’s a lot different in what people write down than he is in person.
XP: I know you’re from Houston, Texas originally. How was the transition from Houston to California?
JJ: It’s huge. It can’t get any different. I’m from a small town in Texas, right outside of Houston. I mean, fashion…there’s no fashion over there. Everyone drives shitty cars and pickups and everyone’s just really down to earth and low-key. Over here, everything’s about fashion and everyone seems to grow up a lot faster in California than they do in Texas. Girls my age here seem like they’re ten years ahead of me.
XP: (laughs) They probably look ten years ahead too, don’t they?
JJ: (laughs) Yeah, that’s another thing. I guess people here like to fuck with themselves and their appearance so much and everyone in Texas is just so natural. It’s really nice.
XP: I know you’ve only been in the industry a really short time. Is there a part of it that you feel has been the most rewarding so far besides landing a contract deal?
JJ: I guess meeting a lot of girls who do the same thing I do. It’s really comforting, because in Texas I didn’t meet anyone that did what I did. It was kind of awkward because I felt like no one really knew what I was going through at certain times, and if I had questions about something, I couldn’t really talk to any girls in Texas. I think over here just being around people who do what I do is really comforting.
XP: I used to live in Ft. Worth so I know that it is kind of in the center of the Bible Belt and I know it’s really conservative there, so it was probably tough to talk to people.
JJ: Oh, yeah.
XP: Since we’re on the topic, being in the industry for the short time you have, what is it you think people are so standoff-ish about in regards to the adult industry in general? Why do you think there’s such a negative rap or a negative stereotype surrounding it?
JJ: I think because people think the people that do it don’t have any brains or any education and just do it for money when it’s not really just about the money a lot of the time. It’s just like ‘How could that person do that? That’s such a slut!’ It’s just a body. It’s nothing bad. I guess people just can’t imagine themselves doing that so they make fun of everybody that does.
XP: Kind of an ego-boosting thing, I guess.
JJ: Oh, yeah. Definitely. It’s like ‘Oh, my gosh, she’s such a whore’. It’s not that she’s a whore, but that she’s got a lot more depth than anyone else does to do what she does.
XP: On that note, then, do you find it difficult to separate your personal life from your career life and keep them separate? I’m sure the line sometimes gets blurred between you as Jana outside the industry versus Jana in. Do you find it hard to reconcile those two things?
JJ: No, not really because when I’m working I’m a lot different. I’m there to work. And the clothing they put me in is not exactly something I’d wear out in public. I’m from Texas and I’m used to wearing little sundresses and I’m really down to earth and I’m not sexual and like ‘Hey, let’s fuck’ 24/7. I’m really picky with guys and I don’t have a boyfriend or anything and I’m just really laid back when I’m not working.
XP: That’s got to be really tough. I don’t want to talk about your personal life too much if you don’t want to get into it, but on the boyfriend thing, it’s got to be tough to find someone who’s willing to accept what you do as a career.
JJ: It’s weird. Mostly, I hang out somehow or another with those in the industry. They work as directors or they do something in it so they understand and they know it’s a job. So, it really isn’t that hard for me yet. The guys that I do like…they work in the industry so…so far it’s good.
XP: Before you hooked up with Michael Ninn at Ninn Worx, you did a couple videos for Hustler. I was just curious and I have to ask: Did you ever meet Larry Flynt at all?
JJ: I did meet Larry Flynt. I was actually…I walked with him down the red carpet for his casino. I think they were expanding the casino or something and I was one of the girls. I got to walk down the little red carpet with him.
XP: So how cool is he in person?
JJ: (laughs) He’s really cool. He’s actually pretty funny. He’s really nice. I can’t really understand him because he slurs, but he’s really funny. I like him a lot.
XP: When you got in front of the camera for the first time, were your nerves just completely on edge?
JJ: They weren’t on edge, but I was kind of thinking ‘Oh, my God. What am I doing? This is it. I can’t go back and my family’s going to know about this’. So, I kind of put my nerves aside and just did the scene as fast as I could keeping in the back of my mind that my family was going to kill me. But, I liked it. I liked doing the scene, but I wasn’t nervous. I was like ‘I can’t turn back. My family’s going to kill me.’
XP: I know so far you’ve been reluctant to do scenes with guys. It’s been mostly with girls. Is that just the intimidation thing you’ve talked about before or is it just easier to start off girl on girl than girl on guy? Is it just a personal choice you make?
JJ: I go girl-girl just because I like girls more than I like guys. I haven’t really found any boys I want to do girl-boy with. Most of them are just not my type. It has to be someone that’s my type.
XP: As far as whom you have worked with in front of the camera so far, who were some of the more fun stars or directors?
JJ: The girls…I would say Lena Nicole and Marlene Moore. They’re probably my favorite. They’re really fun and they’re really good friends of mine.
XP: So, did you know them when you went to California or once you got there?
JJ: I met them when I was here.
XP: I’m curious. In your time in the industry, is there anything you went in saying you’d never ever do, that you found yourself doing?
JJ: You mean on camera?
XP: Yes, on camera.
JJ: Something I would never do on camera?
XP: Well, is there something you were pretty sure you never wanted to do or never want to do that you ended up changing your mind about?
JJ: I think peeing. I never thought I would pee on camera and ended up doing it and I really, really liked it. I think anal too. The same thing with anal. I really liked it.
XP: What do you think is your best feature?
JJ: Body feature?
XP: Yes, body feature. What do you absolutely love about yourself as far as your body goes?
JJ: I really like my eyes. I think my eyes are my best feature. I have green eyes and it’s kind of different (laughs).
XP: Do you want to share what you think your worst feature is, or do you not feel you have any bad features?
JJ: My worst? My teeth. I have a crooked tooth so one side of my face…I have a bad side and I don’t like that. I want both of my sides to look cute. So I think I have a crooked tooth (laughs).
XP: Well, it can’t possibly be as bad as Jewel’s with her little snaggletooth, so I wouldn’t worry about it.
JJ: I do have a snaggletooth.
XP: No you don’t!
JJ: It’s cute, though, but I don’t like it.
XP: Your biggest turn on?
JJ: Biggest turn on? Someone who has a sense of humor and can make me laugh, and they’re not intimidated by me and I’m not intimidated by them. So, anyone I click with really fast when I first meet them. That’s totally hot.
XP: How about when you’re in a scene in a movie? What is something that you’d really want to do that turns you on more than anything else?
JJ: Anything rough, like pulling hair, slapping, spitting, pushing me down. If a girl is really aggressive and if I’m really aggressive with her and she likes it and I can tell, then I think that’s really hot. It’s like a total turn-on, you know?
XP: I have a feeling I might know what your biggest turn-off might be, but I’m going to ask anyway.
JJ: (laughs) Ask.
XP: Well, most of the time the answers seem to be along the lines of hygiene.
JJ: (laughs) Yeah. Someone that’s intimidated by me…I think that’s a total turn-off. And, if they don’t do certain things. They’re like ‘Oh, don’t touch me there.’ It’s like ‘What the fuck are you doing?’ you know. It’s like, let’s go all out if we’re going to do this. So, someone that has a lot of ‘Oh, you can’t touch me here’ and ‘You can’t do that.’ Someone that has a lot of boundaries. I don’t like that.
XP: How about a favorite position? Do you have one?
JJ: Doggie!
XP: What would someone who doesn’t know you be surprised to learn about you?
JJ: I guess in my pictures and stuff, I look like I could be really high maintenance and look kind of mean and prim and proper, but being from Texas you don’t care. You’ve burdened enough people and you’re kind of sloppy. I’m not a little priss. I’m pretty hardcore. I mean, I grew up with boys, so I may look like a little Barbie doll, but I’m not at all. I’m pretty rough. (laughs)
XP: As far as the industry, have you given any thought to how long you want to continue? I know the contract gives you twelve more films, but do you have an idea of how long you want to stay in the industry?
JJ: I’d like to be in the industry for at least five years. I’d like to be with Michael hopefully for two years, but we’ll see. I’d like to stay in it for as long as I can.
XP: Do girls tend to stay with somebody as long as they can or is it typically understood that they’re only going to be with a particular company for a couple years at a time?
JJ: I really don’t know because I just got into the industry. I don’t really know a lot of girls that are contract girls so I’m not sure what they do. The girls that I do know that are contract girls…one of them was with Hustler. She didn’t really talk about how long she was with them and they fired her. I really don’t know how that works. I’d like to be with Michael for as long as I can. I’m comfortable with him and I like what he does. I think if a girl’s with someone…a company that they like what they do and they’re getting along, then of course they’re going to stay for as long as they can.
XP: Aside from job security, what else would a contract provide you that just being a regular girl in the industry doesn’t provide? What kind of perks does it give you?
JJ: Exposure. They do what they can to get you out there. They don’t throw you in…when you’re not in a contract you’re in it as much as you can and they don’t do that so people don’t get tired of you. They’re not like ‘Oh I’ve seen her a million times.’ They wait for your next movie to come out and it just seems like it’s more professional.
XP: I wanted to ask you about your upcoming projects. Can you give away anything that will be upcoming besides the May release of your new movie?
JJ: Actually, I have no idea. They haven’t really talked about it. I talked to Michael about what I want to do in terms of movies, and so I’m hoping that we’ll get together and we’ll make something that I had a lot of input in. But, as far as the other movies coming out, they haven’t said anything. I just finished my first movie and they kind of gave me a break. (laughs) They haven’t really bothered me about the second one yet.
XP: My last question is: what would be the best way for fans to get in touch with you?
JJ: MySpace.
XP: Thank you very much for allowing me to talk to you and I wish you all the best with your contract status and everything you do down the road.
JJ: Thank you so much.
